Don, the "devil on your shoulder" will always tell you, "One drink won't hurt." C'mon man, you're smarter than that. You're stronger too. And remember, for every "devil" on your left shoulder, there are several "angels" on your right shoulder. Just forget that you've got a left ear.

OK, maybe "angels" is a slight stretch. Would you believe "friends"?

I needed to think about last night. So I galloped into a wooded glen, and after punch dancing out my rage and suffering an extremely long and very painful fall, I realized what has to be done.

Good to have you back, brother.

angels and friends my brother. the Lord has been on my side for quite some time - i have been one lucky motherfucker on many many nights. Now it is I who will thank Him and treat Him as the great friend he has been to me all these years.

My left ear is deaf - and my will and faith are strong

thanks brother Bill

it's funny user unk. would use that saying about the devil on your shoulder...

That concept was seen in many a turn of the old century magic poster for Keller, Thurston and others.

But in the 1946 movie Angel On My Shoulder, it's the devil (played by Claude Rains) that the title refers to.

Ever see Days of Wine and Roses?

When Jack Lemmon stands up at the AA meeting and (as Joe Clay) says the most difficult 3 words he's ever spoken in his entire life, it was cinéma vérité.

35 years later, in a revealing interview that surprised many fans and even some friends, Jack Lemmon - good time Charlie, life of the party, Ensign Pulver, "Daphne", Felix and all that...
finally admitted that he wasn't acting in that scene from Days of Wine and Roses when he spoke the line,

"I'm an alcoholic."

Tito, it's magic time and this iron-on transfer has been ready to put the final shining coat to those classy duds, overlooked since the salad days of '92!

btw, there were some helpful holiday hints re: recovery in last Monday's (Nov. 26) Miss Manners and Dear Abby columns.

"Dear Miss Manners: We're in recovery from alcoholism, and do not drink. [at dinners + parties] I dread each time I'm offered a coctail.
...at small gatherings when people ask why we don't drink.

I'm not sure how to answer without giving too much personal information. We enjoy socializing with friends and want to do it without drawing attention to our non-drinking."

"Reader: Miss Manners recommends saying, "I don't care for any, thank you." Whether this is interpreted as meaning that you don't like the taste, or the effect, or are simply repeating declining drinks doesn't matter - because it closes the topic."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Dear Abby (Jeanne Phillips) writes about "How to keep holidays merry" to her readers.

>..."Remember, although alcohol appears to be a mood elevator, it is actually a depressant.
If you have a problem with alcohol, get whatever support you need to make it through the holidays.

If you are feeling down and in need of an instant upper, the surest way to accomplish it is to do something for someone else.
Call someone who lives alone and invite that person to dinner. Better yet say, I'm coming to get you and I'll see that you get safely home."

Love, ABBY
